St. John Bosco is a favorite of mine. As a homeschooling mother, I like to think of him as a great help in dealing with rascally and fidgety boys.
It’s always been on my to-do list to celebrate the feast of St. John Bosco and this year, we finally accomplished that goal.
Besides reading about St. John Bosco, we also celebrated with an Italian inspired meal. It was so simple and the children loved it, I’m sure we will be doing it again next January 31st!

A Family Read Aloud for the Feast of St. John Bosco
This has been a book our family has been enjoying for over a year now. Most Sunday nights, when the littlest 3 get in bed, I read chapter or two to our 12 year old.
The dreams provide so many lessons in virtue and holy living and are a wonderful spring board for discussion together. I enjoy it immensely too!
- Forty Dreams of St. John Bosco (from his memoirs)
Saint John Bosco Reading List for Mom
I read this a couple years ago, hoping to glean some information from the Apostle of Youth on how to handle the religious upbringing for my children.
St. John Bosco is so inspiring and should definitely become a close friend if you care about the holiness of your children!

Liturgical food for the Feast of St. John Bosco
An Italian meal was a rather obvious choice to celebrate the Italian saint. Here was the menu:
- Meatless Spaghetti (it’s a Friday)
- Salad
- Italian Bread
- Steamed Broccoli
- Fruit Salad
- Italian Cream Cake (we went with a liter version here)
“O God, who raised up the Priest Saint John Bosco as a father and teacher of the young, grant we pray, that, aflame with the same fire of love, we may seek out souls and serve you alone.”
