Let’s chat today about something that took this convert a bit to figure out: just what is a spiritual bouquet?
It is such a beautiful and thoughtful gift! I’ve tried to equip you with all kinds of information and resources so you can get started with this beautiful practice!
What is a spiritual bouquet?
Put quite simply, spiritual bouquets are devotional acts and prayers said on behalf of someone and their intentions. These spiritual gifts are usually noted on a card of some sort.
Why bouquet?
Each individual act is like a spiritual flower that when gathered with other acts and prayers becomes a bouquet.
Isn’t that such a beautiful idea? Who wouldn’t want to receive such a gift!
You might want a bit more hand holding (and maybe a printable or two) if you are anything like me!

When to give a spiritual bouquet…
These bouquets (just like a real floral bouquet) are appropriate to give to any one at any time. Who doesn’t want prayers and acts of devotion said on their behalf?
As a previous Protestant, I wouldn’t have always received the gift of Catholic prayers and acts with such an open mind. BUT I think you could use the idea and craft a Protestant acceptable version if you so chose.
Here are a few occasions to consider gifting someone with one of these bouquets:
- Father’s Day or Mother’s Day
- Christmas and Easter
- Retirement or starting a new job
- As a “Thinking of you” card
- In sympathy
- Birthdays
- Anniversaries
- As a “Thank you” card
Spiritual bouquet cards
Most commonly, the devotional acts and prayers offered on the recipient’s behalf are noted on a card of some sort. These can be store bought and elaborate or simple and homemade.
I made these inexpensive card inserts so I don’t have to purchase a special spiritual bouquet card. Instead, they can be inserted in any type of card you have on hand and used for any occasion!
Here are some created by wonderful Catholic small businesses (free options down below).
